Archer
Sprite overview of Archer

An Archer is a 1-1 class capable of long-range combat with the use of bows. Known for simple training and high damage output, the Archer is a popular class to play.

At job level 40, the Archer is able to job change to either a Bard (Male), Dancer (Female), or a Hunter (Male/Female). Most Archers are played to at least job level 42, to max the skills Double Strafe, Improve Concentration, Owl's Eye, and Vulture's Eye, and achieve lvl 1 Arrow Shower.

Archer Quest

Note: This quest can only be done by a job level 10 Novice.

The quest is started in the Archer Guild building in Archer Village (pay_arche) (142, 162).

The Archer Guildsman in the center of the room is the one who looks over the job change process. All Novices aspiring to become Archers must talk to him in order to become an Archer. If the Novice signs-up and is job level 10, the Guildsman will tell the Novice that he needs the Novice to bring some trunks to make a bow and arrows, and gets the Novice to go out and collect some trunks. Some types of trunks have more "point" values than others and are listed below.
  • Fine-grained Trunks are worth 5 points
  • Solid Trunks are worth 3 points
  • Barren Trunks are worth 2 points and
  • Trunks are worth 1 point each
If the Novice brings over 25 points worth of Trunks, the NPC will take all of the trunks the Archer has instead of the required minimum.

Then, the NPC will turn the Novice into an Archer and hand him a Bow[4] and some Arrows. It is not known whether the number of Arrows given varies with the number of points of trunks given.
  • With 80 points of trunks, the Novice is given 130 Arrows.

Training locations

lvl 10-25: Armed with a new bow, the Archer could try to train in Payon Dungeon level 1 (pay_dun00). After buying about 1000 Silver Arrows from the Tool Shop close by the entrance to the dungeon, the Archer could shoot at the Undead property Skeleton and Zombie monsters along with the swarms of Shadow property Farmiliars. The Holy property Silver Arrows do increased damage to Undead, Shadow, and Demon property monsters, so using the zeny that the Archer earned as a Novice would be a fair investment. If the Archer has a tank, he or she could just kill Poporings and train at a faster rate than individual Archers.

lvl 20-35: After obtaining level 10 Vulture's Eye, and level 10 Double Strafe, the Archer could now move out of Payon Dungeon and look for another place to train in.
- gef_dun00 (Underneath Geffen Tower)
This is another area an Archer could train in, though training here during the lower levels would not be very productive unless the Archer is equipped with lots of SP-regeneration items, because the Poison Spores take a few shots to kill, and because of the low ASPD of the Archer at the time, the Archer will have to rely on Double Strafing the Poison Spores. Not a lot of Archers train here because they can train either in pay_fild02 because Wolves give more experience for less HP (658 exp / 919 HP) along with elemental weaknesses, while Poison Spores give 372 exp for 665 HP with no elemental weaknesses because of the Poison 1 property, or because they have a tank who will train them in Louyang Field (lou_fild01) early on. It is up to the Archer to choose their training areas.

lvl 20-50: These areas are also prime training areas, and recommended for Archers under level 50.
- pay_fild02 (2S of Payon)
Before going to this area, the Archer must obtain a good supply of Fire Arrows. Fire Arrows are purchasable at the Tool Dealer near the entrance to Sunken Ship. To reach the NPC, the Archer must head to Alberta and sign-up to the tour for Sunken Ship. Total travel expenses would lead to 1,200z (Teleport) + 200z (Tour). Fire Arrows can be purchased for 3z each (or 2z each by a merchant with level 10 Discount). With approximately 500 Fire Arrows a trip, the Archer can now kill Wolves and Snakes in pay_fild02 without the need for any regenerative items such as Honeys or Red Potions. This is an ideal area for training because all monsters are passive, and are Earth property (meaning that they are all weak to Fire-based attacks).

- moc_fild03 (1S 1W of Payon)
Another good area is moc_fild03. The monsters known as Greatest Generals are stationary monsters that have a lot of HP, but in turn, give a lot of experience too. The Archer can snipe Greatest Generals from a distance that is outside of their magic casting range (9 tiles), and enjoy relatively little aggression except for the groups of Elder Wilows in the area, along with Vagabond Wolf. Training in this area is slower than pay_fild02 if the Archer does not have SP-regeneraton items such as Grape Juice or Honey because Elder Wilows tend to do a lot of damage quickly, and Double Strafing takes up a lot of SP really quickly.

lvl 40-50: lhz-fild01
Stock up on Grape Juice and Iron arrow and double strafe Metalings

lvl 50-job level 40~50: lou_fild01 (1S of Louyang)
Louyang Field is one of the most popular places for players under level 75 to train in, and it is also the one of the areas with the highest PK rates.
In Louyang, there are passive, non-target-changing monsters known as Soils. Up until the implementation of Louyang, Glast Heim Churchyard (GHC) was the popular training ground because the Zombie and Skeleton Prisoners gave copious amounts of experience, but after Louyang, it became clear that Soils were better because they gave more base and job experience for less HP while keeping the Fire elemental weaknesses of the prisoners. Avoid the Mantises on the field and kill the Soils. Since the field is a 15 second walk away from the Teleporter and Kafra, it is one of the most convenient places to train in.Although now the Teleporter's healing ability is disabled.Either bring potions or beg Preists/High Preists.

lvl 50 onward:ein_fild04 (One map north of Einbroch)
Shoot normally for single Geographers, and spam Double Strafe for the rare mob (since they heal each other). Upgrade your bow in the payon weapon shop as you can afford it.
