Hunter

Hunter
Sprite overview of Hunter

Hunters are one of the most powerful classes in the world of Ragnarok if used correctly. They are considerably easier to level because of their long-ranged, high speed attacks with their bows. Hunters have the ability to rip up an enemy in seconds, and are very dependent on only a few skills. In the War of Emperium, hunters can serve defensively on sniping towers or lay traps to slow down enemy advances. Offensively, hunters can provide long range support and break emperiums.

Changing into a Hunter

Requirements

For an Archer to become a Hunter, he/she must have obtained a minimum job level of 40. It is not necessary to go above job level 41 unless a player plans on maximizing all of the basic Archer skills.

Recommended skills as a Job 41 Archer

lv 10 Double Strafe
lv 10 Owl's Eye
lv 10 Vulture's Eye
lv 10 Improve Concentration
lv 1 Arrow Shower

Arrow Shower is optional, but HIGHLY recommended for use in combination with traps.

Becoming a Hunter

An Archer can use the Job Change Girl NPC in Prontera, which requires a fee of 100,000z. <add Hunter test here>

The Test

<to be added>

The Job Change Girl NPC

The Job Change Girl NPC is available for any person who is at Job Level 50 to change into any available job from the first class to the second. She is located in the SW building in Prontera Square, South-West from the central fountain. Inside the building, there are two female NPCs. The one behind the counter is the NPC that one talks with in order to make a Ph.D. Hat, and the one beside the door is the one that you want to talk to. After making sure you are job level 50, and that you have 100,000 zeny in your possession, talk to the NPC and after a brief dialog, you are able to choose the class you want.

Hunter Builds

The most common types are the "Powerhouse", "Falconer", "Auto-Falconer", and "Hybrid" builds. Hunters rely chiefly on DEX, and AGI points in their build; VIT and INT are only supplementary.

Powerhouse Hunter

The Powerhouse build, or otherwise known as the AGI build hunter, specializes in extreme ASPD and damage, in order to optimize training objectives. Variants of this build is the most common among hunter class, and serves as the most economical build for leveling purposes. Although this build allows for large amounts of damage to be dealt in a short period of time, powerhouse hunters are weak against swordsman class, or classes with the capability of causing the stun effect, as VIT is minimized to make up for greater leveling potential.

This is an approximate estimate of MOST Powerhouse Hunter builds:

1 STR
90+ AGI
1-30 VIT
1-30 INT
90+ DEX
1 LUK

STR is not necessary, but putting a few points in here would allow the Hunter to carry more gear while traveling or training
AGI is necessary for flee and attack speed
VIT is not necessary in most cases, but in PvP, it is very cautious to have more HP and DEF
(exchange stat points to INT to improve Double strafe : honey ratio)
INT is strongly recommended because Hunters are very dependent on "Double Strafe" (exchange points to VIT for increased status resistance and maximum HP.
DEX is necessary for damage and HIT
LUK is not necessary, but putting a few points in here allows for higher chance of autoblitz and critical

Advantages for being a Powerhouse/MVP Hunter:

-Economical leveling: A hunter can level with higher Double Strafe: honey used ratio, meaning longer periods of leveling without having to return for supplies. Hunters can utilize INT points up to a ratio of 5 double strafes : 1 honey.

-High attack speed: Rapid spamming of the skill Double Strafe allows for high damage output within a short period of time. At ASPD of 179+, rapid Double Strafing can cause a "Double Strafe lock" against certain classes.

-MVPing: Hunters can work with a tanking partner to engage in MVP hunting. Recommended partners include VIT build priests, PI monks, VIT knights, GC saders, and some blacksmiths and alchemists capable of tanking. High ASPD combined with low honey usage is formidable against many MVPs. Some possible MVP targets include Orc Hero, Orc Lord, Drake, Eddga, Stormy Knight, Dracula, Dark Lord, Osiris, Garm, and others.

-Low VIT is ideal against the Creator skill "Acid Bomb"

-Emperium breaking option in WOE: If hunters in this build can make it into the emperium room, they may be of valuble assistance to emp breaking. Use Arrows of Shadow or Cursed Water for best results.

Disadvantages for being a Powerhouse/MVP Hunter

-Low stun resistance: The skill Bash used by many knights, crusaders, and other skills which cause the status effect "stun" will last for prolonged periods due to low VIT. Low VIT hunters are easy targets for attacks which inflict the "stun" status

-Low HP: Hunters in this build will have low HP ( <7000 points), and will fare less successfully in PVP or WOE due to the lack of durability.

-Low HP recovery from potions: Each potion used recovers less HP due to a smaller amount of VIT in the build. Potions will tend to run down quicker in WOE or training situations.

Equipment Recommendations for Powerhouse Hunters

Head (upper)
Ghost Bandana: +2 AGI. Dropped by GhostRing. Increases hunters aspd by nearly a factor of 1, but makes for a weak defensive headgear
Apple of Archer: +3 DEX. Dropped by Skeleton Archers. Helps achieve the dex bonus, but makes for a weak defensive headgear
Cap[1] compounded with Nightmare, or Stalactite Golem Cards: Nightmare Card gives +1 AGI and resistance against the Sleep effect, while stalactite golem card gives +1 DEF and +20% stun resistance. Higher refined caps make for more defense then the other recommended headgears

Head (mid)
Sunglasses[1], Glasses[1], compounded with Nightmare Card: as stated above, gives +1 AGI and sleep resistance
Binoculars: can be made in Morroc, gives +1 DEX and +1 DEF, a cheap alternative that also gives an essential stat point

Head (lower)
Gangster Mask: Gives +10% resistence to the silence effect.
Cigar: Reduce damage taken from insects by 3%, good for protection against hunter flies.

Other options include Romantic Leaf, Romantic Flower, Flu Mask, Pipe, and others. Alarm mask, opera masks and other generic +2 DEF headgears cover both the mid and lower slots

Armor
Tights[1], compounded with Pupa, or Peco Peco Cards: Pupa Card gives +700 HP, while Peco Peco Card gives +10% max HP (for higher VIT hunters) +1 DEX from the Tights
Coat[1] compounded with Pupa: a cheaper, but likely heavier alternative for hard tights. Does not give +1 dex like tights

Other recommended options are Glittering Jacket[1], Mantle[1], Silk Robe[1]. Hunters should prefer lightweight armor for greater honey holding capacity when training

Weapons
All around = Rudras Bow: Must be made by the level 4 weapons quest. Expensive weapon, but makes for the best all around training. Allows for Level 1 Heal and Level 1 Cure, which basically combined with high INT points, eliminates the need for potions. This bow also gives +5 int as well as 50% resist to posion, curse, silence, chaos, and blind status.
140+ DEX = Double Racial+ Double Size Modifying Card in a Composite Bow[4]
135-140 DEX = Double Racial + Size Modifying Card in a Crossbow[3]
< 130 DEX = Double Racial carded Gakkung[2] or Arbalest[2]: Arbalest is a cheaper option then Gakkung and gives +2 DEX, but Gakkung gives an additional +10 ATK. Use Arbalest only if it is to hit a bonus.

Other recommendations are Double Hurricane(Andre Card) Arbalest or Ballista(Dracula/Sniper Shecil drop). Ballista is a less recommended option due to its heavy weight (350).

Garment
Hood[1], compounded with NineTails card: Gives +20 FLEE, and +2 AGI if the Hood is upgraded to +9 or higher, an expensive option for a garment that gives the functions of a mocking hood with an additional +2 agi and no downsides.
Hood[1], compounded with Whisper Card: Gives +20 FLEE, and +50% damage from Ghost Property attacks.
Muffler[1], compounded with whisper card: Same as above, with +1 DEF then a hood but twice the weight.

Hood[1] is recommended over Muffler[1] due to lower weight, and greater abundance in market.

Footgear
Boots[1], compounded with Matyr Card: Gives +1 AGI, +10% base HP, great for hitting ASPD bonus.
Boots[1], compounded with ChonChon card: Gives +1 AGI, +2 FLEE, great for hitting ASPD bonus and increasing FLEE, a cheap alternative for hunters.

Accessories
2x Glove[1], compounded with Zerom Card: Gives +4 DEX each glove, a requirement if hunters want to achieve 140 total dex.
2x Brooches, or brooch with Kukre Card: Gives +3 AGI each brooch, a cheaper alternative for zerom gloves and will allow for 1.5 more ASPD.
2x Glove: Gives +2 DEX each glove, great for < lvl 90 hunters.
2x Clip[1], compounded with Kukre Card: Gives +2 agi each clip, gives +1 ASPD if two clips are used simultaneously.

Gloves may be substituted by Zerom clips for +3 Dex each, but this is not recommended as Zerom Cards make for a heavy investment. A Teleport Clip (Creamy Card), for movement and Heal Clip (Vitata Card) in substitution for potions are also recommended

Where to level Powerhouse Hunters

Where the powerhouse hunter can level heavily depends on its flee, choose a location that has suitable for you, or go explore! The below are some recommended leveling locations.

Lvl 50-60
Lou_fild01, gh_churchyard (GHC) gh_prison (GHP), xmas_dun02 (toy factory lvl 2)

Louyang is heavily recommended for hunters seeking rapid increase in job levels after changing into the hunter class. GHP may be less accessible at this level due to the abundance of hunter flies and rybios.

Lvl 60-70
gh_prison (GHP), gh_churchyard (GHC), Lou_fild01.

GHP is most recommended due to its abundance in monsters and zeny making opportunities. Use traps wisely to ensure greatest leveling potential.

Lvl 70-80
gh_prison (GHP), gh_in (GH), ayo_dun02 (ayo dungeon), tur_dun01 (turtle island surface), um_dun02, c_tower3 (clock tower lvl 3)
Hill Wind.

ayo_dun02 gives the greatest base exp and requires the lowest flee to train in, but tamruans give very little job exp, and job level 50 is highly recommended before accessing this location. gh_in gives the best exp: income ratio, but may be difficult due to the abundance of ridewords.

Lvl 80-90
gh_in (GH), gh_prison (GHP), ayo_dun02, tur_dun03 (turtle island dungeon lvl 3), lhz_dun02 (bio labs 2), c_tower3 (clock tower lvl 3),
Anolians (Snare + wind arrows needed)

Turtle dungeon lvl 3 is highly recommended for improving trapping, battle mode, and arrow switching skills, and is an excellent location to train in isolation. lhz_dun02 may require priest support.

Lvl 90-99
juperos_01, jupe_core, abyss_03 (dragon map), lhz_dun02, lhz_dun03 (biolabs 2 and 3 respectively), gh_in (GH), Kasa (Snare needed)

juperos_01 may get mobby and priest support might be needed depending on flee. jupe_core, abyss_03, lhz_dun03 are all locations recommended with priest support. lhz_dun03 has a level 95 base requirement, and is recommended for hunters skilled with various trapping techniques, control with battlemode, and arrow repel.

Lvl 85-99
Anubis (Solo with 2 snares + ds)

The best thing about Hunters is that they can train nearly everywhere in Ragnarok world. Immediately after turning into a Hunter, work in GHP (Glast Heim Prison), GHC (Glast Heim Churchyard), or Comodo Beach (cmd_fild02) one map right, and then south from Comodo and train until level 80. From here, you should already have a decent bow (Rudra's Bow preferably), and a Teleport Clip/Glove. Grab some Silver Arrows also, and then find Priests that are able to warp you to Glast Heim Castle, where the monster, Dark Frame, sleeps and wanders. Anolians are also great to level off of too. After some mass leveling, you should reach level 99 fast enough.

Falconer Hunter

Another build to a Hunter is the Falconer build, where the Falcon of a Hunter is treasured for its damage and useful company. Utilizing the skill called "Blitz Beat", the Hunter is able to deal amounts of splash damage to monsters or players within 3x3 unit targeted. The presense of INT in this build allows for effective mine damage, and economical WOEs.

The formula for the damage of Blitz Beat is:

80 + 6*(Steel Crow lvl) + 2*Floor(INT/2) + 2*Floor(DEX/10)

Stat Build

1 STR
1 AGI
10-40 VIT
80+ INT
75-90 DEX
1 LUK

This build can be customized according to the player's preferences. Optimize stat points between INT, or VIT to improve durability in WOE situations or blitz beat damage while training.

STR is not necessary, but some points can go in here to increase weight for carrying gear
AGI is not necessary; points should be used in INT or DEX to improve blitz beat damage or cast speed.
VIT is recommended for PVP situations to improve resistance to status effects and to increase total HP along with HP regeneration from HP healing items.
INT is very necessary for the improvement of falcon damage, and greater damage from mines.
LUK is not necessary

Advantages to Falconer Hunters

Bow is not necessary: A weapon is not required to cast the skill "Blitz Beat", and a guard can be used in its place to improve defense.

Economical WOE: Larger amounts of INT status points makes for lower SP item consumption.

Greater Defense: Hunters can achieve 7x defense with the use of a guard and the proper equipment, and can play tanking roles in WOE, or in some MVPing situations.

Disadvantages to Falconer Hunters

-Weakness from ranged targets: The lack of a ranged weapon does not allow hunters to retaliate against distant enemies such as other archers, bards, hunters, snipers, or clowns. Blitz beat has shorter range the Double Strafe

-Different role in WOE situation: Hunters in this build may have to utilize other options such as trapping or tanking in order to assist in WOE efforts.

Blitz Beat Skill
Raydric Cards and Thara frog card reduce the damage of Blitz Beat
Damage is based off the skill "Steel Crow" and INT status points
Blitz Beat penetrates the Crusader's Auto-Guard, and Defending Aura
If an elemental arrow is equipped, Blitz Beat will bypass Raydric Card's effect

Where to level Falconer Hunters

<to be added>

Auto-Falconer Hunter

This build relies on high attack speed coupled with the fact that you can take advantage of hunters auto-blitz(explained later), which is based on the luck stat. There are variations of this build of course, some prefering more hp and stun resistance with vitality(VIT) over a higher attack speed or more intelligence(INT) and dexterity(DEX) instead of VIT.

Auto-Blitz
Basically how this works is when you shoot you will notice that your falcon comes out every so often to help you. The INT stat improves damage of auto-blitz as well as the Steel Crow skill. The more luck you have when you shoot a target the more chance there will be that your falcon will come out. How often your falcon comes out is calculated by the formula (0.3 * LUK) % on each shot, while the damage is calculated by the formula (DEX /10,1) + floor (INT/2,1) + Steel Crow lvl*3 + 40) * 2 * Skill lvl.

Some things to note about auto-blitz:

- The damage is split when you are auto-blitzing two or more enemies within 2 cells of one another. So if you did 1000 damage to one enemy you would do 500 if it was two , 333 damage for 3, 250 for 4, etc.

-How many times your auto-blitz hits is based on your job level:
Job levels 0-10: 1 attack
Job Levels 11-20: 2 attacks
Job Levels 21-30: 3 attacks
Job Levels 31-40: 4 attacks
Job Levels 41-50: 5 attacks

-If you miss the target then your falcon will not come out

Now...on to an example of a build

1 STR
70-120 AGI
0-50 VIT
0-50 INT
20-70 DEX
70-130 LUK

So basically this lets you decide for yourself what you want. If you want more attack speed get more AGI, more damage per arrow hit get more dex, more resistance to status effects get more vit and luk, etc.

Just make sure you are satisfied with everything and keep testing around with builds until you find one you like. As a falcon hunter be sure to utilize traps to give you a edge in killing monsters or PvP. Finally be sure to get equipment that boost stats for the highest stat you are planning to get, for example if I was planning on getting 90 AGI total and everything else is below that then get AGI equipment. Defence is also important so don't skimp on that.

Equipment

Now most hunters either get LUK boosting equipment or AGI boosting equipment depending on which one you like and have more of.

Weapon: This all depends on your playing style. Since auto-blitz hunters have lower amounts of dex than other builds the weapon that will do the most damage is a 2 slot gakkung. Sticking two race/element cards in the should make you do the max damage you can with the least amount of dex or a Rudra. Another path of weapon you can go is sticking status affecting cards into your weapon. Usually having a 5% chance of inflicting a status effect on your target. The cards that add status effects are:

Zenorcs - 4% chance to inflict poison on target + 10 attack
Snake - 5% chance to inflict poison on target +5 attack
Savage bebe - 5% chance to inflict stun on target
Skeleton - 2% chance to inflict stun on target +10 attack
Marina - 5% chance to inflict freeze on target +5 attack
Magnolia - 5% chance to inflict curse on target +5 attack
Familiar - 5% chance to inflict blind on target +5 attack
Metaller - 5% chance to inflict silence on target +5 attack
Plankton - 5% chance to inflict sleep on target +5 attack
Requiem - 5% chance to inflict chaos on target
Lord of death - Add the chance of auto casting 'Coma' on an enemy. Add the chance of auto casting 'Stun, Curse, Mute, Poison or Bleeding' in random when attacking the enemy.

You can either go with a combination of different types of cards, or just stick with one status effect such as stun to increase the chance.

A few other combinations of cards that a useful:

Triple/Quaduple Malicious(Hunter fly card) Crossbow/Composite Bow - Enable a 3% chance of gaining 15% of the damage inflicted on an enemy as HP with each attack.

Hybrid Hunter

The hybrid hunter utilizes the PVP capabilities of the hunter class. Similar to the powerhouse hunter, the hybrid hunter is able to dish out impressive amounts of damage at a relatively high ASPD. Trading some INT for VIT points in the powerhouse build, a hunter with greater durability and resistance is created.
